EEG/LFP Workshop

Understanding neural excitation/inhibition: implications for typical brain function and clinical disorders

1st September 2015, University of Sheffield, UK

The workshop is sponsored by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) UK and the Experimental Psychology Society (EPS) UK. It aims to bring together researchers from multiple disciplines including psychology, neuroscience and mathematical modelling to share knowledge regarding techniques used to measure neural excitation and inhibition, with an emphasis on developing greater understanding of typical and atypical brain function. Topics covered will include the measurement of and balance between neural excitation and inhibition at the cellular and population levels, modelling of excitation and inhibition, pharmacological interventions of excitation and inhibition, measuring excitation and inhibition in humans using EEG, and implications for the study and potential treatment of clinical disorders including autism, epilepsy, Alzheimer's, and schizophrenia.
